You have to keep in mind that drywall panels are large, bulky, and can be very difficult to handle. If you prefer to rent a drywall jack, then you will find that most home improvement centers will be able to give you that. The cable connectors mechanisms in drywall is not that difficult to operate, and it will do a good job to keep the drywall sure that you attach it to ceiling.
First off, you must have before you start the project. In addition to broken plaster, you need a hammer, a drill with a screwdriver bit and you will obviously need screws and nails to fix the plaster in place. It is also important for you to measure the roof twice in order for you to find out how many drywall panels you need for the project. And, get some extra drywall panels in case you make a mistake when attaching the drywall on your ceiling.
The first thing to do when fixing plasterboard ceiling is to highlight the beams. You need to find the boards, who will serve as the ceiling joists. You can do this by tapping along the wall studs with a hammer, and at the same time, follow up on the wall to the roof. Then, mark where the plates are placed with a pencil. This is basically where you have to put plaster on and it will make it easier for you to find them than to find them while screwing or nailing the drywalls on.
You must also measure the light goes on plaster. This is basically where you have to carve out a hole in order to meet the part of ceiling.
After labeling of the beams, the next step is the hardest step that you will ever do when attaching drywall ceiling. This section is where you actually build a plaster ceiling. If you do not have someone to help you out, you can always use a drywall jack to hold the drywall panel in place as you attach it to ceiling.
When nail the panel to the joist, make sure you do it half an inch from the edges . This will prevent the edges to crack or split. Do this on ever corner of the plaster. After doing this, it’s time for you to remove the jack and hammer the nails of six or seven inch intervals around each panel.
Try to countersink nails or screws of the panels as this will allow you to cover the heads of nails or screws with compound .
Learning is not so difficult. However, it will require you to exert a lot of hard work and effort that you will get the job done.
If you don’t know anything about how to tape drywall, then it may
be time for you to learn.
